AMATEUR RADIO OPERATOR RECOGNITION DAYS

A proud moment was bestowed upon Wisconsin Amateur Radio this week. On Wednesday, March 10, 2010 Governor Jim Doyle signed a proclamation declaring June 26 and 27, 2010 as AMATEUR RADIO OPERATOR RECOGNITION DAYS. (Click here for the Proclamation)

It was a great honor and privilege to meet with Governor Doyle. He warmly greeted each of us, shook our hand and invited us into his boardroom. Before he signed the proclamation, he said that he would like to ask us a few questions. It was delightful to see a man of his stature so genuinely interested in HAM radio. (Click here for Photo 1)

We spent at least 15 minutes conversing with the Governor about the role of HAM radio in Wisconsin today. Some of his questions focused on youth involvement. Other questions were focused on training and how HAM organizations statewide are preparing to be of assistance when a disaster strikes.

Governor Doyle signed the proclamation (Click for Photo 2) and presented it to Skip Sharpe W9REL, ARES/RACES SEC. (Click for Photo 3)

Special thanks to Joe Senulis, N9TWA who worked with the Governor’s office to make this all possible. (Click for Photo 4).

Hams in attendance at the signing were, Don Michalski W9IXG, SM; Daniel Gomez Ibanez W9DGI, ASM; Skip Sharpe W9REL, SEC; Joe Senulis N9TWA, ASEC WEM, Sandy Letlebo KC9LZW, and Kathy Schramm KB9UAZ, ASEC Marketing and Recruiting.
