Hello everyone,

Well the end of my second year as HF net manager is here and I am happy to say things have done great on the net. First I want to say thank you to all the people who have helped with doing the net control. Everyone has done a great job and I hope to have you back in 2007. For those who have thought about doing net control but have held back for some reason, please call or e-mail me. I will be glad to help and get you started. It’s not hard and you can gain useful experience if you have to be net control in an emergency. My phone number and e-mail address are at the bottom of this letter.

The success of this net is not from me the net manager or the net control stations only, it is from everyone that checks in. I check into and listen to several nets on the bands and I have to say that some are a free-for-all. There is no control by the net control station; people are talking over one another and it’s hard to understand what's being said. Our Ares/Races HF net keeps an orderly system going and everyone gets a chance to say something. This is accomplished by you, the check ins. Ares/Races news and information is passed with everyone getting a chance to listen and talk.

We have started net topics once again and it seems to be a great success. This time we have asked you for the ideas on what to have for a topic. I started a list and we have discussed some of the topics and everyone says the net is more interesting. The list I have is too long to put here but the topics are all good things that have to deal with Ares/Races and emergencies. If you have an idea for a topic, send me an e-mail and I’ll add it to the list.

Now I would like to add a reminder about who can check into the Ares/Races net. In one word, everyone! Let other people know that you don’t have to be a member of an Ares/Races group to check in. As long as you have a general class license or higher you can join the net. Also remember to tell other members of your Ares/Races group to check in. The net is not for EC’s or DEC’s only, it’s for all to take part in. One thing I like is that we have check ins from other states also. We have had people check into the net from Illinois, Minnesota and Michigan to name a few.

If you have an idea for a topic or would like information about taking a turn at net control or just need some info on the net you can call me or e-mail me.

My phone number is: 715-634-4940

My e-mail address is: kruk1209@charter.net

Remember the Ares/Races HF net is on Sundays at 6:00pm central time on 3977.5 kHz.
